Before the meeting started, President June told us a little about the U.S.C.O. Convention at Grant Hall, Queen's University. Then the meeting opened with singing of O Canada followed by the minutes and roll call. We were sorry to hear that Marjorie MacIntyre and Ray McDiarmid 'are in hospital. The treasurer gave her report, followed by the correspondence. read by the secretary: A thankâ€" you for our donation to the Day Camp; a meeting of SAIL at Seeley's Bay Library in October. As the Legion Hall will not be available for our regular Business Meeting in October, it was decided to hold it on Friday, October 4 at 1 p.m. Margaret Grigsby gave a good report of the U.S.C.O. Convention at Queen's when Bob Rae, Premier of Ontario gave the opening speech. Margaret and June attended a workshop on Seniors and the Law which concerned Power of Attorney. Next year the Convention will be in Windsor. Shirley and June will attend the Zone Meeting September 23 in Brockville. SEELEY'S BAY LEGION PRESIDENT JIM IS SEEN HERE PRESENTING A CHEQUE TO THE SEELEY'S BAY FIRE DEPARTMENT BRINGING OUR BRANCH DONATION TO THE JARS OF LIFE T0 $800.00 SEELEY'S BAY LEGION Branch Sports Officer, Kathy Curtis is to be congratulated for organizing a ball tournament between the Seeley's Bay Fire Department and this branch. The net result was another $600.00 for the jaws of life bringing our branch contribution to $800.00. We all wish to thank the Seeley's Bay Restaurant, Norma and Gord Leadbeater, Wendy's Wigwam and Ed Tanner for their kind assistance. New branch members Fern Aldridge and William Tate were welcomed in the ususal manner. Past Service Officer, Les Smyth was issued a well deserved Service Officer's Bar. Dues are due and membership Chairman, Roy Talboys has once again arranged an earlybird incentive system with prizes of $10.00 at end of September, $15.00 at end of October and $25.00 at the end of November. Byâ€"law Chairman, Les McTaggart has issued a first draft of five branch byâ€"laws and is hoping for members input at the next general meeting before he submits his final draft for a motion of acceptance. Dates to remember are the start of Adam and Eve Darts on Friday, 27 September at 7:30 p.m. A roast beef dinner and dance on Saturday, 5 October. A proposed euchre tournament 26 October. Service Officer, Orv Martin and Sick & Visiting Chairperson, Velma Turner have been very busy making sure that those under the weather are given a few comforts and some assistance with their transportation problems.
