12 NORTH LEEDS LANTERN OCTOBER 1991 B ayfi SEELEY'S BAY UCW Joyce Basely was hostess for the evening as the Seeley's Bay UCW gathered for our first fall meeting. The devotional was given by Joyce Simpson on the timely subject of Harvest members of time - are we ready? She read a story of an owner who had died. A friend said to the servant "I suppose he has gone to heaven" and he replied, I don't think so: when he is going away, he spends a long time in preparation and no mention was made of plans to go to heaven. Dorothy Heys, President presided for the business. Minutes of previous meeting were adopted as read. Treasurer‘s report showed a gratifying result of the summer bake sale. Hilda Simpson reported on the many cards sent to sick and shutâ€"ins. Comment was made on the beautiful floral arrangements in the church sanctuary and plans were made for flowers for anniversary Sunday, September 29 at 11:00 a.m. Other activities will be the UCW Fall Rally at Westport, September 25, and our annual turkey supper on October 5 to be held in the firehall. An invitation was read from Gladys Webb to come to her Art Exhibit at the Kingston Public Library on October 9, 7 to 9 when she will be there to personally greet people. The Exhibit is on display from October 7 to October 25. Helen Sweet introduced our guest speaker from the newly formed clinic for breast cancer screening for women over 50. this is funded by the Ministry of Health through the Ontario Cancer Research Foundation. Presently ten of these clincs are open with one being in Kingston. Many questions were asked and a great deal of interest shown in a subject vital to all of us. We were urged to tell others about this program. A social time was enjoyed over donuts and a cup of tea served by Joyce Basely and Eliza Gilmore. Mary Davies M-.--._.v A COMPLETE ST. PETER'S ACW Our August Meeting was held at the home of Margaret Ann Perry. Scripture Reading Act's 12: lâ€"l7. Questions and answers on scripture were discussed. Minutes of the last meeting were approved. Treasurer's report followed. Roll call showed 9 members and 2 visitors present. Under old business, final arrangements were made for Bruce and Margaret Ann Perry's wedding anniversary. Under Correspondence a letter from Marjorie Jackson re the Area Meeting on September 24, 1991 in Merrickville. Under new business our Harvest Thanksgiving Service will be on September 15, 1991 at 10:00 o'clock. Our retreat day is October S, 1991. Our Smorgasboard is October 30, 1991. Our meeting closed with our ACW Prayer, and lunch was served. Our next meeting is on Supper September 10, 1991 at the home of Gail Moore. Our September Meeting was held on September 10, 1991 at the home of Gail Moore. Devotional included Psalm 104 and reading of the Fifth Day from Dialogue. Hymn singing concluded devotional. Minutes of the last meeting were read and approved. Treasurer's report followed. Roll call showed 7 members present. Our Retreat Day is October 5, 1991, Rummage Sale is October 25 and 26 and St. Peter's Smorgasboard Supper, October 30, 1991. Our meeting closed with the ACW Prayer and lunch was served.
