SE . \ . -:f_ua.sw,,nfi .ELTA BEVERLEY SENIOR CITIZENS A meeting of the Beverley Senior Citizens was held on June 21 1991 in the Legion Hall at Delta at 2 p.m. Beforeâ€"hand we had a delicious potâ€"luck supper at noon. The meeting the singing of by our President, Mildred Aimer. Birthday was one member, who had a birthday in June. The minutes of the last meeting were read by the secretary opened with O Canada Mrs. Happy sung for and approved. The treasurer's report was read and approved, also the auditor's report. Money was allocated to the United Seniors Clubs of Ontario, as registration fee for our members, Elmer McQuire and Peter Breedyk, who will represent the club as voting members at the upcomimg Provincial Convention, to be held on August 12, 13, and 14, 1991 at Queens University in Kingston. Peter Breedyk reported on the Zone Rally, which he attended, with five other members of our club, in Brockville on June 19. Leta Burt, who is a member of the newly formed Triâ€" County Advisory Board on aging, suggested that the club join this organization for a fee of $10.00 per year. It was moved, seconded and passed. This will provide feedback of information. An election of officers for the coming year was held, with the following result: President, Mildred Aimer; Viceâ€"President, Lorna Pearson; Secretary, Irma Chant; Treasurer, Emily Lester; Corresponding Secretary, Peter Breedyk. The President wished members a good summer, since we have no meetings in July and August. The next meeting will be held the 3rd Friday in September 1991 in the Legion Hall at Delta. "DELTA DATA'I The UCW held their meeting at the lovely home of Kathryn Powell where President Irma welcomed each one and read a Chinese version of the 23rd Psalm. The purpose was repeated. The devotion opened with Leora Raison reading scriptures from Acts 17: 21-31 and gave a prayer. The ladies sang For the Beauty of the Earth with fa PTEHBER 1991 Kathryn at the organ. President Irma read about the Moderator-McLeod, whose favourite piece was "It's a small world after all“ so we also sang this song. The offering was received and dedicated. Minutes of the May Meeting were read together with the treasurer's report and both were accepted. The roll call resulted in 10 home calls being made. The fun project and leprosy fun were received. President Irma thanked members for their help at the Mother's Day Tea. Correspondence was read, Bakeless bake sale discussed to be held in September. The members thoroughly enjoyed themselves at the Lyndhurst UCW meeting held June 3. Irene Goodsell gave her minute for Stewardship, entitled "The Gift of Learning". Kathyrn, having the program, chose a Play reading, entitled "Oh! Susanna will never be the same again!". .This depicted the poor conditions that some live in and how they would cope with such. President Irma closed with the Mizpah benediction. Edith Woods treated the ladies to a tasty lunch and Iced tea and lemonade. Irene Goodsell gave the courtesy. A good time was had by all. Vivian Morris ROYAL CANADIAN LEGION BRANCH 207 Delta Legion Branch 207 held their most successful bass derby this year from June 29 â€" July 6. There were 78 entries in the large mouth class and 12 in the small mouth. Jim Bartholomew won $40.00 in the small mouth class with a 4 1b. 1 02. fish. Herb Carr also won $40.00 in the large mouth class with a fish weighing 4 lbs. 13 ozs. The hidden weight prize, a large mouth bass of 2 lbs. 2 025. was split three ways, by Dean Leeder, Donnie Carbino and Carl Boileau who each won $5.00. The Legion wishes to thank the community for their very loyal support. Special thanks to (a) Morris' Grocery who weighed the fish; (b) Donnie Carbino who sold the most tickets, $90.00. There was a fellow who caught a 6 1b. bass and forgot that he had a ticket. He remembered after they had eaten the fish. He would like to remain nameless. George winegarden DR. It doesn't sgum lhut long ago, but belorc we know it, the 1992 Delta Maple Syrup Festival will be upon us. The 25th. Anniversary celebrations are tentatively scheduled for April 4th. and 5th,1992. ln order to prepare for the festival, the Committee will be holding its annual meeting on Wednesday,0ctober 2nd. at 7:30p.m. in the Delta Town Hall. At this meeting, there will be an election of officers and members. Anyone interested in helping organize the festival, please come and be a part of our Committee. Hundreds oi spectators lined the streets of Delta as they anxiously awaited the arrival of the 161st. edition of the Delta Fair Parade. 55 entries were registered for the July 30th. event which followed Highway # 42 from Beverley Elementary School to the fair grounds. Again this year, the parade was led by a cruiser from the Westport detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police. Following behind was Don Harrington of Athens escorting Mark Potter,our 1991 Parade Marshal. Mark is the sports announcer from CKWS~TV in Kingston. Other local dignitaries present for the parade included Fair President Cord French, County Warden Dave Sloan.Kitley Reeve Cecil Kinch,Doug Johnstone and Eleanor Drummondâ€"both of whom are Directors of the Ontario Association of Agricultural Societies. We were also very lucky to have Trina Code in the parade as she is Ontario's Queen of the Furrow. This year's parade boasted 3 musical entries: The HMCS Ontario Drum and Bugle Corps.,the Indian River Central School from Philadelphia ,N.Y. and Roy Fawcett's Organ Display from Winchester. Marching in front of the military band was the colour party from Prescott Legion. As the parade passed in front of the grandstand, Director Ronald Morris gave a brief description of each entry while judges Gail Astley of Ottawa. Roma Wing of Westport and Hugo Hoogenraad of Brockville made their final revisions. The following prizes were awarded: Best Band on Parade: lst.-Indian River, 2nd.â€"HMCS Ontario and 3rdâ€"Roy Fawcett. Best Novelty:lst.-Elgin Blue Jays,2nd.-Angela Deckle and 3rd.â€"Amy Tye. Following the parade, the bands put on a musical display in front of the grandstand while the visiting dignitaries were treated to a lite snack and refreshments in the Board room. The hospitality was arranged by Hon. Fair Director Betty Ostrom in her usual competent fashion. Parade organizers Beth Sawyer and Marie Flood would like to thank all of the participants, guests, judges, drivers and spectators for making this year's parade on of the best in recent memory.
