The aim of the Lantern is to provide a monthly newspaper of interest to the residents of the areas it serves. The incidence of Asthma is increasing in Ontario and the village of Westport is no exception. "We have found that there is an increasing demand for asthma information in Westport," stated Pat Dewar, Volunteer Coâ€"Ordinator. Asthma is a chronic lung disease that can be serious. Typical signs of asthma include a chronic cough at rest or after exercise, shortness of breath, wheezing and chest tightness. The Lung Association through programs such as the "Air Force Asthma ' Program" and Asthma Support Groups such as this newly formed one in Westport, hopes and education to asthmatics and parents of asthmatic children. Through education and understanding of Asthma, asthmatics and their parents are better able to manage their condition. The Lung Association is very pleased to have Dr. Alan Drummond as the guest speaker at the first meeting of the Asthma Support Group in Westport. "Dr. Drummond has extensive knowledge and experience in the field of asthma and we are very pleased that he volunteered to our group," has speak to stated Dewar. This program is being provided free of charge by the Lung Association and all interested persons are invited to attend.
