4 NORTH LEEDS LANTERN MAY 1991 *9 ;\ IF'u . ' W043 ~ “V. 7%“? DELTA ATHLETIC & RECREATIONAL SOCIETY We would like to express our sincere "THANKS" once again to all of the People of the Village and surrounding ' area who supported us during the Maple Syrup Festival by means of baking, donations and helping us through- out the Festival. You helped us survive a very busy weekend. Last year we started construction on the horseshoe pits. We completed 2 of them last year and plan on completing the other 8 this year. We also plan on landscaping at the Recreation Center with trees, flower beds and park benches. We will keep you upâ€"dated on this project. There are also plans on starting up a Horseshoe Club if you are interested let us know. We hosted a few tournaments last year with very good turn outs, showing us that there is interest in this area. This fall we had a lot of maintenance done at the rink by replacing some boards, fixing the pressure pump, doors etc. to get ready for the winter. We had ice for a couple of weeks and had a very successful winter Carnival, but when the mild spell came in January the ice melted and the water ran out under the boards. with our winters, wherein one week it is freezing and the next it is mild, we think that if we can find a way to keep the water from running out by somehow sealing the sides then we could have ice most of the winter without depending on people flooding. if any of you have any good suggestions on how this could be done we would be glad to hear them. We also have finally decided on a Logo that was designed by Kathryn Hunter of Delta. We presented it on Neon coloured hats during the Syrup Festival. We still have some left if anyone is interested. The Delta Athletic & Recreational Society is ya nonâ€"profit organization that depends on volunteer help to keep it running. It takes a lot of money and hard work to keep the Recreation Center going, but over the last 2 years there have been many improvements made. We do appreciate all of the donations and help given to us. After all the Center is to be enjoyed by young and old. In the winter, weather permitting, there is skating and hockey. In the summer there is tennis, basketball, volleyball and most recently Horseshoes. Come on out and visit us. The Recreation Center is located on Water Street and ‘we always have any of our events posted in the Grocery Stores throughâ€" out the Village. We are always looking for help. Come out and join us. Our meetings are on the lst Monday of every month at the Recreation Center starting at 7:30 p.m. If you have any questions, suggestions or concerns please feel free to call or write us. we can be reached at Box 46, Delta, Ontario KOE lGO.
