6 NORTH LEEDS LANTERN MARCH1991 ELGIN U.C.W. The U.C.W. met February 12, 1991 at the church with 25 members and 2 guests present. President, Marjorie Earl opened the meeting with Scripture from Colossians and then our singing of "A Chorus of Praise". The worship was taken by Anna Charland's group. This service was linked to the theme of the World Day of Prayer service for this year â€" "On the Journey Together". Several stories of women in the Bible about their journeys were read by various members. Enid took the offering and it was dedicated by Irene Martin. The worship closed with Irene reading the benediction. Loree Smith's group took the program. It was also linked to the world Day of Prayer and taken from Luke 1:42-55. The story of Elizabeth and Mary was discussed in 3 groups with several questions for consideration. when we reassembled each group gave their opinions. The business portion opened with the reading of the January minutes by Secretary, Lydia Tackaberry. They were approved as read. Correspondence was dealt with. Several committee Chairpersons gave reports. Roll call for March is a mug for our Church kitchen. Veita willows had information handâ€"outs from the Community of Concern â€" Marjorie‘s - "Happiness File” had 10 items of interest. There were several contributions for the Remembrance Book. Sandra Freeman read from Mark 3:24â€"26 and there were several prayers said from our church following. Mrs. Beryl Sim had a display of books and cards for our perusal or purchase. She and her husband, Miles, were with the Christian Literature Books but now run a business from their home. The World Day of Prayer service is March let in St. Columban's Church, Blgin at 2 p.m. The meeting closed with the benediction. The social hour followed with the tables decorated in the Valentine Theme. L. Tackaberry SOUTH CROSBY FRIENDSHIP CLUB Five lovely ladies graced the head table of the South Crosby Friendship Club on February 13th when they received their honorary membership certificates, namely Eva Baxter, Mildred Burtch, Daisy Coon, Mae Dennison and Eliza Gray. 29 members answered the roll call and enjoyed a delicious pot luck dinner along with a lovely birthday cake made by our oldest member Mildred Burtch in honour of Mae Dennison's birthday. while the dishes were being cleared away, Tom Davis drew a few chuckles with his reminiscence and some old songs. President, Lawrence Yeatman opened the meeting with "O Canada" and "The Lord's Prayer“. Secretary, Sarah Gard read the minutes of the January meeting and Treasurer, Nina Churchill gave her report. President, Lawrence read a thank you note from the school for our food bank donation in application of their entertainment at our Christmas dinner. Mary Yeatman gave a report concerning the use of the adjoining room after renovations, Daisy reported that the afternoon euchres have been very successful. June Gamble reported on the upcoming Senior Games to be finished at club and area level in May, then on to the District Games in Brockville in June. After a short business discussion, several members enjoyed a few games of euchre, bringing to close an enjoyable afternoon. Next meeting will be March 15th and anyone 55 and over are encouraged to join us.
