12 NORTH LEEDS LANTERN MARCH I991 SEELEY'S BAY U.C.W. Our U.C.W. met this month at a different date and a different time â€" Wednesday, February 6 at 2 p.m. We made a temporary change, to see if it would be any help to seniors in winter time. Some seniors do not drive in winter, others like to walk if they can see the road clearly and find the slippery spots to avoid. Hilda Simpson was hostess and gave a warm welcome to everyone. Joyce Simpson gave us a good start by reading an inspirational thought. Devotional was ably taken by Jean Collinson. Reports were read by the Secretaryâ€"Treasurer, Card convenor â€" all full of interest and approved. For the benefit of those who did not attend the church annual meeting, Helen Sweet gave a splendid shortâ€"form of what went on there. Everyone seemed pleased that the church books balanced. We were pleased to hear all the really interesting plans made for this year in improving our church especially the basement, where our children meet. The Sunday School should find a great improvement. We now will want to Show our interest and support. Plans were in discussion for the progress of our U.C.W. for this year. The World Day of Prayer will be held in Seeleys' Bay, in St. Peter's Anglican Church, March 1. For our speaker, we were fortunate in having "Isidora Spielmann", who is a talented artist. Her specialty is painting on silk. She showed slides of many unusual designs and pictures â€" later allowing us to see the beautiful finished articles â€" such as scarves, etc. This report won't begin to describe the beautiful work this talented artist does, but hope to hear more in the future â€" enough to persuade folks that our U.C.W. meetings are important and interesting. We do have interesting speakers and fine programs. Refreshments followed giving us a chance to chat with our speaker and ask a few questions. All welcome to attend our March meeting.
