4 NORTHIEEDSLAITERI JULY/AUGUSTI992 Citizens met on Friday , June 19th at the Legion Hall. Presiâ€" dentâ€"elect, Elmer McQuire was in the chair, as outâ€" Beverley Senior going President Mildred Aimer is sick. He opened the meeting and we all sang O'Canada. He reported on a tea of the VON Senior Support Group in Elgin, which he attended with is wife Ruby, during the sickness of Mildred Aimer. They all were quests of the school children of the Elgin Public School, grade 7 and 8 served food and drinks, and all the Classes, sang and danced for the elderly. It was nice to see a double generâ€" ation gap bridged, which was enjoyed by young and old. Secretary Irma Chant, read the minutes of the last meeting, which were approved. She also read the message of the Presiâ€" dent of the USCO as it appears every month in the Voice, our monthly paper. Emily Lester read her financial report, which showed a good balance. Lawrence Yeatman, of the South Elmsly friendship club in Elgin, organizes with the other clubs a bus trip to the nuclear plant in Chalkriver, for which 8 of our members put their names down. This trip will be in July, date not known yet. Leta Burt who serves on the Executive of Zone 20 will move up to the job of Field Representa- tive, pending approval of the USCO. As such, she will go to the Conven- tion of the Province in Windsor this coming August. it was moved by Jane Breedyk, seconded by Lorna Pearson, that her expendiâ€" tures be paid by the club. Carried. The meeting closed with singing of the Queen. After this we all moved with our pot luck suppers to the home of Florence and Lloyd Sawyer on Beverâ€" ley Lake, who hosted our club for this event. With homeâ€"made entertainâ€" ment, we enjoyed ourselves in the beautiful surround- ings. We. all had a good time, enjoyed the food and said goodbye till September 18, 1992. when we will stard a new season. Peter Breedyk DELTA CANADIAN LEGION The regular meeting of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 207 at Delta, was held on June 8, 1992, with our President, Glen Chant, in-the chair. The minutes of the last meeting were read by the secretary and approved I as read. Treasurer, Ron Morris, 'gave his financial report which is declining, due to cold wather, frozen pipes and high bills from the hydro. Bob Partridge and Wilson Winegarden moved for the adoption of the report, which was carried. Wilson Winegarden handed in the resolution in lthe proper form, which will be sent to the Zoneâ€"secreâ€" tary. The Zoneâ€"commander, attend- ing our meeting tonight, advised that the Resolution needs to be put on a Legion form, which he will send to the Branch-secretary. Correspondence was read by the secretary, which included a letter from our MP Jim Jordan, with a daily report of the House of Commons, including his speech he held in support of Bill C 289, the Remembrance Day Act. Bryan Halliday, a former member, asked the Memberâ€" ship Chairman, Wilson Winegarden, if he could join again. Moved by Dob Carbino, Seconded by Ed Gravelle to admit him, carried. President, Glen Chant, vacated the chair and the Zone-commander, Wilmer Tedfor took charge with the help of Zoneâ€"Sargeant of Arms, Freddy Coates and duly installed Officers_ for the ensueing year. There were 10 members in attendance. The Presiâ€" dent hereafter closed the meeting, Peter Breedyk BARLEH/CHANTRY UCW Marion Seeley was hostess for Harlem/Chantry UCW meeting at her home on Sand Lake, June lst. Jean Sheffield president for the month welcomed the members, thanked the hostess and opened the meeting with a scripture. Clara Townsend conducted the worship service "Underâ€" standing the Lords Prayer". Hymn "God of Mercy, God of Grace“ was sung. Nancy Wykes gave a paper on "Wife Abuse“ and "Batâ€" tered Women". Minutes, correspondence and business were dealt with. Fourteen home and ten hospital calls were made and thirteen books were read. Meeting closed with bene- diction and a social hour enjoyed. Elleda Dunkell will be hostess for the next meetâ€" ing, September 4th. Clara Townsend .closing prayer was given DELTA NEWS The UGW' held their last meeting for the summer at Irene Goodsell's home, where each were welcomed by President Irma Chant and especially Reverend Karen Woods. Minutes of the May meeting and treasurer's reports were read and accepted. A discussion was held re the Fall Rally which is to be held at Olivet September 23rd. A bakeless sale to be handed in Sepâ€" tember meeting. An invita- tion was received from St. Andrew's UCW to attend a special meeting October 8th, at which Jean Beers will be the special speakâ€" er. The program given by Irene Goodsell was on “highlights of the Earth Summit“ - which is really the United Nations Conference on Environment and Developâ€" ment. This was indeed very informative!!
