Ollnces - Counly Road a SHIRLEY BRYDEN, A M c T cmo Clerk-Transom: Your Council at Work Bastard and South Burgess The Christmas rush and the joyous season is over and we anticipate a prosperous and rewarding New Year. By now everyone is aware that our Reeve, Arch Ostrom, has been elected Warden of the United Counties. He is the first Reeve of Bastard and South Burgess in 42 years to hold this position. We are sure that you will wish to join Council Members and staff in congratulating Arch. We are pleased and proud that he has brought this honour to the Township. Instead of the usual brown bag lunch, the staff held their annual turkey Christmas dinner during lunch break at the December 4th meeting, Council members were invited and all enjoyed the delicious home cooked meal. What a treat! Committees have been appointed for 1990 and the members sent confirming letters. A Policy and Procedure ,Manual for each Committee is being prepared by the respective members. These documents when. completed should greatly facilitate the smooth functioning and productivity of our Conmittees. While on the topic of Conmittees, there are some wonderful volunteers in the Municipality who give unstintingly of time and energy to make this area a better place to live. They deserve a big thank you from all of us. Once again, a Volunteer Appreciation Night is being planned â€" more information will be forthcoming. A letter was received from Cablesystems Inc. re: an application to provide cable service to Delta and Phillipsville. The company sought our support in applying for a licence from the CRTC, which we gave in the form of a letter. Perhaps these two conmunities will soon have cable service. Once more budget time is L 067¢0 i; 9†3 K9 LEO WYKES Rona Suoenmundent upon us. Council is busy trying to trim Conmittee and Department budgets before these are amalgamated into the overall budget. Business assessment has been lost, resulting in a much smaller tax base, but the same level of service must be maintained and, costs are rising. Of course, you've seen the rumours in the paper of the school boards double digit raise in their needs. Over this, we have no control. Not wanting to leave you on a dismal note, here's the report on Waste management â€" the top priority topic these days. To extend the life of our sites and to meet Ministry requirement we are working on a pass book which each ratepayer must present when using the site. It will be enclosed with your interim tax bill and is subject to revision. No doubt the corrections necessary will soon become evident! Please,' please help us to extend the life of our disposal sites â€" to truck the refuse away would cause astronomical costs. There is no charge for ratepayers using the sites, but there are some exceptions. All rules and regUIations will be in your pass book and must be followed. Our application for the Recycling Grant is being processed to provide funding for containers, promotion and hauling costs. Hopefully by next month the amount available will be known. Also, two able volunteers, Lois Mowat, Portland and Alf Cassidy, Chantry, are representing our Township on the County waste Management Committee. Already Council has received two reports from them. We hope by the time you read this you have taken advantage of the outdoor rinks at Chantry, Portland and Delta. Be positive about winter, enjoy the wonderful scenery, the cold freSh air and the outdoor activities of our beautiful Bastard and South Burgess. mwmsmmswmumâ€"mmcs By By-Iaw No. 756 passed Jammy 71, 1990 InterimTaxes will be due March 26, 1990. 112 Hill Rate established for the Interim billing will be 407. of last year's mill. vvv
