Ii **DELTA COMMUNITY CHRISTMAS COMMITTEE** Thanks to the numerous donations of time, materials and finances, the streets of Delta took on a festive look for the 1989 Christmas season. The community projects were co-ordinated by a commitee of four: President Marlene Stearry; Secretary Heather Halladay; Treasurer William Morris and Dennis Halladay. But if it were not for the people of the surrounding area, many of the festive decorations would not have been possible. The very idea and the determinatio to see the completion of the projects is evidence enough that the true spirit of Christmas lives always in the hearts of Delta citizens. On November 11, volunteers braved the cold weather and strong winds to decorate the utility poles with 5 foot metal Christmas trees, stars and bells covered in colourful foil garlands. The committee would like to extend their sincere thanks to Bill Stearry and Howard French for donating the steel to make the decorations, Bill Stearry for all of his efforts in constructing the decorations, Dennis Halladay and William Morris for painting the steel, Marlene Stearryâ€"Heather Halladayâ€"Thressa Findlay for decorationg the frames and to Bruce Steacy and Keith Smith for erecting the decorations on the utility poles. A special vote of thanks should go to M. Boucher and Ontario Hydro for their coâ€"operation in our project. On December 3rd, spirits ran high as children of all ages and adults gathered for an old fashioned tree trimming ceremony. While singing Christmas carols, the local residents enjoyed decking the tree with 850 shinning lights. The committee would like to thank Hazel Wykes, Delta Bed & Breakfast, Beth Sawyer, Heather Halladay,Glenn A. Sweet Hardware, Bill Carbino, Beverley Elementary School and Delta Park Superintendent Bud Donald for the donations of supplies for the tree. Following the tree trimming, participants went to the fire hall for hot chocolate courtesy of Linda Smith while the committee furnished the hot dogs. A special vote of thanks should go to Bob Harrison of Bell Canada for assisting in the tree decorating and for placing a star at the top of our towering cedar. Of course, it would be inappropriate not to mention those who have made some financial contributions to the decorating fund. Without such great support, additional tree lights-and utility pole garland could not be purchased.
