Christmas time in the townships
It's a busy Christmas social time in the Townships. The Red Dog Sportsman Lounge, Deux Rivieres, was the scene of the annual Municipal Dinner on November 30. Members of Council, Boards and Committees, and Members of both Federal and Provincial Houses, and special guests, wound their way up the Valley to socialize, dine, and greet Santa. The weatherman cooperated with great driving conditions which added to the fun celebration in the fine new facility at the top of the County. Owners of the Red Dog Lounge, Larry and Priscilla Beauchamp, were congratulated on their hard work and dedication in providing, in a very short time, this important addition to the community.
On Sunday afternoon, December 8, in the Stonecliff Hotel, it was time for wild euchre games, and a Christmas buffet dinner for all seniors over age 55 in the Townships. This annual party is a highlight of the festive season and again this year it was well attended. The younger people in the municipality provide all the gourmet offerings for the dinner and organize the event which is sponsored by the Catholic Women's League. Santa ho-ho-hoed into the scene and rewarded each boy and girl of yesteryear with a gaily- wrapped gift.
It was Ladies Nite Out when the fairer sex gathered to enjoy their annual Christmas Dinner at the Stonecliffe Hotel on Tuesday, December 10. The CWL gather all area ladies together, for this special feast of food, fun and socializing. The Reverend J.J. Quinn offered grace, and later Lita Therrien led in carol singing. Busy Santa rolled in to the tune of Here Comes Santa Claus and quickly administered the gift exchange. Draws for two Christmas gingerbread housed were won by Lita Therrien and Leanne Yates. And the Season still offers more. With another euchre party slated for December 15, the Mackey Carollers filling the air with music on December 22, the celebration of Midnight Mass at Stonecliffe on December 24 at 10 pm, family homecomings and greetings, and a New Year's Eve ball in the Town Hall, it would seem the Townships truly celebrate Christmas.
