By Angie Saunders The News The swimming program recently acknowledged swimmers for their accomplishments. Karie Baldwin received the Tommy Duriez Trophy for the Outstanding Swimmer of Terrace Bay. This trophy is presented annu- ally to a Terrace Bay resident who is an excellent student in swimming lessons and whose behaviour during open swimming reward. My hats off C.P. It has now been in excess of 600 days since we suffered our last lost time injury which could only have been achieved through a dedicated effort by all. Nancy McWatters, Lisa Jacques, Rhea Beaulieu, Irene Kettle, Margie Fulton, Teresa Gemmill, Louise Tonin, and Maureen Running all participated and received certificates. These ladies had to swim 460 lengths of the pool or 10,500 Karie Baldwin received the Tommy Duriez trophy from Jodie metres. This is the distance from Terrace Bay beach to one of the beaches on the Slate Islands. The 'Swim the Slates' program started three years ago to give people an incentive for something to swim for. Lifeguards Jody Spear, Khris Turpin, Keli Turpin, Shane Jowitt, Shannon Moore, Sandra McDougall, and Debbie McDougall also swam the dis- tance. Spear for being the Outstanding Swimmer of Terrace Bay.
