FIRE BRIGADE - CITIZEN'S TRIBUTE The Fire Brigade is the only organization serving the entire community which asks public support but once annually and, to boot, offers in return a gala evening. Their annual Hallowe'en Masker's Ball will be held on October 30 this year, with cash door prize for lucky ticket, spot dance prizes and prizes for costumes awarded by impartial judges. The brigade has always been a voluntary one and this year marks Cyril Sparkes' 40th anniversary as a member. It was started by the CPR, manned by their shopworkers, with only a hose on wheels as some measure of fire protection, after the town had been swept by several disastrous blazes. About 1931 the late J.E.Sheehan, then reeve of the town, appealed for a volunteer town fire fight- ing team which was promptly responded to by C.
