~ Fashion Models KINETTES HOLD SPRING FASHION SHOW The Kinettes held their Spring Fashion Show in the High School Auditorium, with Mrs. Gladys Irving of Fort William as commentator . Mrs. W. Weaver, president of the Club, welcomed the audience who showed their appreciation of the more than 100 styles displayed - coats, suits, dresses for all occasions, sportwear, children's and men's wear. Complimenting hats and bags and other ac- cessories were also for sale. The models were Mary Jo Ryan, Master Ricky Mc- Lellan, the Misses Carole Lalonde, Melanie Ross, Roberta Milani, Anna Spadoni, Doris McParland, Mesdames O.B. Fasan, G. Walsh, R.T. Campbell, E.Graham, G. Caccamo, P. Bolan, F. Macadam and Gary Speck and Lawrence Guillet wearing the men's clothes. Mrs. Gretchen Keating and Mrs. Eileen William- son did the make-up and the various hairdressers were given credit. The mystery prize was won by Mrs. E. Nesbitt. Following the show, coffee and cakes were served by the Kinsmen. -Photo by Inez McCuaig HIGH SCHOOL BOARD REPORT The High School Board met on April 18th with Alec Gordon presiding. Principal O. B. Fasan's report, in part, was as follows:= attendance 98.22%; the results of the Easter examinations were very good with top four or five students increasing their overall average in each grade; students addressed by Dr. Merrill of the Lakehead College English department. The O.E.A. headmasters' convention in Toronto March 30-31 was attended by Mr. Fasan. The school library now contains over 700 volumes and three different types of encyclopediae. FIRE BRIGADE INSPECTED L. E. Cottenden, Lakehead Fire Marshall's rep- resentative, was here this month to inspect the local volunteer brigade and announced himself satisfied with the execution of their duties. Mr. Cottenden showed films on fire fighting and gave a talk on the subject. The men are presently studying for an oral exam- ination in May. Only one call was answered during March, when a camp at Walker Lake caught fire. At this, the Scott Air Pak was used and the booster line. Four practices were held during the month. LIBRARY BOARD REPORT The Public Library Board held its meeting with H. M. Ermel presiding, Miss Gwen Hadley giving the treasurer's report. Word was received that Miss Pat Quinlan of the High School staff has been named as representative to the Board. An invitation was sent to the Re- gional Librarian to meet with the Board after the book exchange is completed. Books for the permanent library to the value of $500.00 will be ordered, the members each pre- senting a selection from catalogues. Mr. Ray Guillet was asked to write for particulars and prices of dictionaries. ST. JOHN AMBULANCE WIN COMPETITION The Schreiber Branch of the St. John Ambulance Brigade have received word that a local team has won the Geo. Wardrope Trophy in competition with four Lakehead teams. The Senior First Aid Brigade competition was re- vived this year after a lapse and the Schreiber Branch are to be highly commended for bringing the honors to the district at this particular time. The five member team were Capt. Mrs. D. Rum- mery, Mrs. Margaret Johnson, Mrs. Helen Dooley, Jim McCuaig and Chas. Lavigne. They were coached by Mrs. Helen Jartus. In individual competition, four members were among the top ten, Mrs. Johnson and Mrs. Dooley placing second and third. The team scored ap- proximately 550 out of a possible 600 points. The award will be presented at the annual in- spection on June 23rd. The High School players will present two plays on May 2nd in the School.
