Mary De Long Capron, Hiram's wife Details
Not long after he moved to Long Point, he met a young woman named Mary De Long. They met in March 1823, when he was running his furnace, and married less than a year later in February 1824 (Smith, 30). With Mary, Capron raised his family here in the town that would become Paris.

While Capron began to build his family here, he also imported family from his native Leicester. As early as 1823, he was trying to set up his brother David; eventually he would be joined by his brothers Horace (Smith, 28-29) and Otis, as well as his nephew Walter (Warner, 656). Horace joined in the family business and helped Hiram in his improvements on Governor’s Road. Walter, meanwhile, came later and established his own businesses, first as a grain trader using the newly-built railway and later as a liquor seller. He would also become a longtime town councilor, further emphasizing the Capron family’s influence on the area.
