Farm Implements of Burford Township
Introduction
Agriculture played a significant part in the day-to-day lives of the early settlers of Burford Township, and it’s no surprise farming remains strong in the area to this day. What follows are examples of the farm implements that are part of Burford Township’s agricultural heritage and the stories behind them courtesy of members of the Burford Tractor Club. These machines illustrate the proud history of farming and self-sufficiency of the Burford area. Significant changes to tractors occurred in the late 1930s through to the end of the Second World War as production was greatly modernized and much more streamlined. These changes led to increased longevity of farm equipment as it is not uncommon for tractors that are 40-50 years old to still be used on a regular basis.
