What's that off in the distance? Its a lumber camp. Logging back in the day was done mainly in the middle of the forest. There are no towns nearby and commuting is out of the question. Camp needed to be established so the loggers can work a full day and not have to spend half their day traveling back and fourth between home and the woods.
Before the loggers arrive the logging camp had to be built. It had to be built well enough to survive many winters and create an environment in which the loggers can live comfortably for many seasons. The means used to build this structure were rather primitive. There were no mechanical tools on the site and horses were used to move the heavy pieces.
Here is a group of loggers posing for a picture on a building. Its hard to tell if this picture was taken at the beginning of the season, in the fall, or at the end in the spring.
The stable of the lumber camp. Horses were vital to the work at the camp. After all it was not the loggers pulling sleighs with logs from the middle the of the woods to the camp. It doesn't appear that all the loggers at the camp are in the picture. It may only be the horsemen at the camp in the picture.
Its now winter the camp is open, the buildings are warm, lets go out and cut down some trees.
