- Description
- A two page item on the Magnetawan Public School. This includes two black and white photographs of the Magnetawan public school and short report on the Magnetawan public school. The school is a white wooden building with a bell on the roof. This was likely a one room school.
The second photograph shows the school in a bit of disrepair. The building at some point was painted white, however at the time of this photo the paint is peeling. The bell is not there anymore. - Inscriptions

Lot 5, East side, Formerly 5 Sparks Street
The present building on this lot was erected in 1888, the second School to be built in Magnetawan. It was frame construction with one room, heated by a wood stove, which was cared for by students who lived close by. Each of the three Stewart boys, Frank, Norm and Sam took their turns at that job, and girls looked after the cleaning.
In 1907, the school was divided into two rooms, but that didn't work too well, and in 1908 a thirty foot addition was built to the front. This school was in use until the late 40's early 50's, when the present school was erected at the south of town.
The old building was sold to the Royal Canadian Legion in Magnetawan for their meeting place and later sold to the Marina to be used for storage. The Legion then purchased the Orange Hall. The Legion has since joined forces with the Dunchurch branch. - Date of Original
