- 2 views of the cabin built in about 1830 at 1495 Burnhamthorpe Road West, Oakville, Ontario. It was built on Lot 25, Concession 2 NDS, at the west end of Burnhamthorpe Road which ends at the Sixteen Mile Creek, in what was then the Township of Trafalgar. Today, it is part of the 7 acre 1495 Burnhamthorpe West farm.
The cabin is known as either the Ludlow or "Slacer" log cabin. The latter surname has been sometimes written as "Slater".
It is Listed on Oakville's Register of Properties of Cultural Heritage Value of Interest (NOT Designated). Description: “This property has potential cultural heritage value for its historic log cabin, historically associated with the Slacer family and the agricultural development of Trafalgar Township.” The property is included in the North Oakville East Secondary Plan.
In 1835, George Ludlow brought his new bride, Frances (Cruise) to this house and farm. The Cruise family had moved to Trafalgar Township from Grimsby Township, Lincoln County were they were listed in the 1828 Census.
George and Frances raised their family of six daughters:

Martha b. 1843 married John SLACER
Mary b. 1848 married Arthur BEATTY
Barbara b. 1851 married George LONG
Elizabeth b. 1854 married Thomas FREEMAN
Lilly b. 1859 married Alfred HUGHES
Henrietta b. 1864 married John JOHNSTONE
Martha and John Slacer also lived in this log cabin after their marriage. - Notes
