Most of us as individuals want to support these agencies, consistant with their needs and our ability to contribute, Too many times in the past their appeals have caught us | at a bad time, and we had to cut our contri-- bution, The plan worked out by this organization enables each of us to contribute to the extent we feel we can afford, and to do so ina rela- tively painless way through payroll deduction, It further assures us that each organization will receive its just proportion of what-we contribute, The Company pledges its support and contin- ued co-operation with this venture! , Rk. G. Shirriff, Mill Manager, TO MY FELLOW WORKERS For a_number of years past we have been plagued by the increasing number of requests for Charitable donations, both in the Mill and at_the doors of our homes, True, they / were all legitimate and deserving, but, un- fortunately, there were times when we were -- : Caught with little or no ready cash on hand, | thus were not able to donate as much as we _ from the Hotel and Hospital Staff and one | from the Electrical Union, ' the name "KIMBERLY-CLARK-EMPLOYEES ! CHARITY ' FUND" was chosen; also officers were elected , to draft up a set of By-laws which then had _to be adopted by the rest of the directors, , These By-laws were then sent away for Govern- /ment approval which has been received so now we can issue receipts for all money donated _which will be deductible from Income Tax, 'would like to have, With this in mind a committee was set up in the early part of this past summer to investigate what other Mills were doing. and also to contact Management regarding the setting up of a United Drive, whereby every employee would have the opportunity to give a regular set amount through payroll deduc- tion. Management were very much in favour of this system and, since then, have given their full co-operation, The first 'organizational meeting was held on June Ist, 1959, with six members from Local 665, one from the Office Staff, one At this meeting for the coming year, A committee was formed We then had to work out a tentative list | 28 to how we should divide the money received 'along with approximate percentage to go to 2ach organization, I have tried to give you a very brief outline of how KC-ECF came into being and of the ground work already completed, Now comes the important part and that is where You and zy as employees of Kimberly-Clark Pulp and Paper /Sompany have the opportunity of giving the i' Jnited way by signing the payroll deduction 'cards which will be out around November 26th, '1959, 'yer month, January through October, The minimum donation is to be one dollar There 'till be no deductions for November or Decen- ¥. at yer. I may mention here that several Mills wwho already have this system of Charity giving vere contacted by the board and we found that 'some ask for one hour's pay per month. TERRACE BAY NEWS Tt eee Re ee Trusting this appeal will be very success- ful and thus minimize the charity drives to one per year. Respectfully submitted, {Signed) W.T, Baillie, | Chairman, "I am appealing to you to support the KC- ECF, This method of payroll deduction will eliminate door-to-door and Mill canvassing for funds, Your committee is presenting to you a proposed budget which will take care of the different charities, and I believe will be a fair way of distributing the monies taken in, So, when you are approached by the can- vasser, sign up and you will be helping | someone less fortunate that you.
