'Page 3, News, Tuesday, J uly 30, 1991 Students to wash cars for Freddy the Fracture Finder Students will be ready and waiting to wash any and all vehicles when the Canada Stu- dent Employment Centre spon- sors a car wash this Thursday. One half of the funds raised will go to McCausland Hospi- tal's Freddy the Fracture Finder fund and the other half to the students. The Student Employment Centre, which closes on August 9, has found 856 positions for students from Schreiber and Terrace Bay, said Jill Marcella, student placement officer. "Last year we placed 98 and hopefully, within the next cou- ple of weeks I will be able to find a couple of more jobs," she said. $ 4 million in OPAP grants The Ministry of Northern Development and Mines has approved 420 applications, representing $4 million, for funding this year under the province's Ontario Prospectors _ Assistance Program (OPAP), Mines Minister Gilles Pouliot has announced. "We have been impressed by the overwhelming interest in this year's program, with near- ly 930 applications received," Pouliot said. OPAP, which encourages and stimulates grassroots min- eral exploration, provides grants of up to $10,000 to qual- ified individuals carry out prospecting and grassroots exploration in Ontario. Marcella said the employers have made very good use of the service. "I find they are using the ser- vice more this year than they did last year. More casual work orders have come in and there has been a wide variety of jobs." Fewer students used the ser- vice this year but Marcella said those that did use it came in to the office or called more often. "They were more concerned this year," she said. "Last year they registered but never really bothered to fol- low-up." The car wash will take place at the Norwood Motel parking lot between 3 - 6 p.m. A hard landing after a heroic effort The Terrace Bay-Schreiber Soccer Association lost their second exhibition match to Marathon 3 -1 on Wednesday in Terrace Bay.
