Bennett Camp- bell is asking any active or former Canadian mili- tary or civilian person- nel who were exposed to varying levels of radia- tion during operations with the Department of National Defence, to communicate with the University of Ottawa. A study, commission- ed by the Minister, is being carried out by the university's Department of Epidemiology and Community Medicine to investigate the mortal- ity rate among those exposed during clean- up operations at the Chalk River Atomic En- ergy plant in Ontario in 1953 and 1958, and the observation of nuclear test blasts at Nevada in 1955 and 1957, and in Australia in 1956 and 1957, The results of the study may prove most useful to the Canadian Pension Commission to determine the eligibil- ity for disability pen- sions and allowances un- der the Pension Act, for former members of the Armed Forces and their dependants. In order for the study to yield valid results, it is important that all per- sons who were expos- ed, whether or not ad- verse effects resulted, are identified. Anyone directly' in- volved, or who is aware of a friend or relative who was involved, in any of the operations is asked to write in confi- dence to: Dr. S. Raman, Dep- artment of Epidemio- logy and Community Medicine, University of Ottawa, 451 Smyth Road, Ottawa, Ontario K1iH 8MS. The following infor- mation is required: Full name, current address and telephone number; date of birth; service number(s); date, place and details of ex- posure. Terrace Bay Tues.
