INDIAN LEGENDS OF THE DISTRICT by A.J.McGoey - Pays Plat - Dept .of Lands & For- ests . Just across the Big Pic River from Heron Bay Indian Mission is a small rocky hill called "She She Gwa Wrabick". Wabick means a rock or something solid and Gwa means a woman. She She is the name of a spirited people, perhaps friends who, they believed, returned from the herafter. They could be compared to our modern "little green men". At the foot of the rocky hill at water lever is a cave. The legend goes that anyone passing this cave at night by canoe would hear rattling and they would drop some token--a trap, hatchet or food. If they did not, the She She woman would put a curse on them. On a steep cliff at the narrows of Big Santoy Lake, between the creek to Prospect Lake and the crumbling cliff is a spot called "Windigo Wigwam". The wind blowing through this nook actually howls. Windigo has several meanings, but in general it means giant or some mighty chief or god who is always active. The story goes that a famous Indian chief was drowned here and the howling is his spirit. Any- one passing by would leave tobacco or some token to appease him. When they returned, they noted that: anything left had been picked up. The practice of giving tokens has been traditional with Indians since time immemorial . CAR STICKERS FOR BLOOD DONORS Car drivers who are also blood donors will in future receive from the Red Cross a gold and red sticker for the windshield of their car. In the event of an acci- dent this will indicate that the driver is a blood donor and that he carries a donor card giving precious infor- mation on his blood group. Many times this fast identification has contributed to saving a driver's life. It enables the police or am- bulance attendant to telephone this information to the nearest hospital ahead of arrival. This will insure that the blood supplies are ready and no time is lost finding the right blood group before commencing treatment. The Canadian Red Cross blood transfusion service, aware of the value of such identification, urges all drivers to consider this sticker a must. Car owners are invited to have their blood typed by donating at a Red Cross clinic. They will then be issued with a |icard identifying their blood group and a sticker to indicate that they carry this information. The blood donor windshield sticker has b een proven most valuable. Its use should be regarded as an essen
