Interest is being shown from Metcalfe, Russell and Winchester to have a schedule for the Novice "A'"'s starting in early January, which we are pursuing at the moment. Our competitive "A" and "B"' teams have been showing well in the Carleton-Dundas Minor Hock- ey League, as shown by the following team statistics: Our association will be holding two dances, January 13th at Greely Community Centre and March 31st at Metcalfe Commun- ity Centre. Keep these dates open. Everyone is welcome, so come out and lend your support. Our Hockey Schedule Booklet is presently being printed and should be ready approximately December 15th. Last year's Ottawa District representative, the Ottawa East Voyageurs, lost out in the final game of the Wrigley Series. Hopefully area fans will get the opportunity to see this year's ODMHA representative (Yet to be decided) at the Russell Midget "A" Tournament in late January Jack Mclaren Sports Ramblings ~ With the CDMHL Tournament coming up after Christmas I felt the following article which I gleaned from an old Hockey Tournament programme might be more meaningful than any words I could conjure up at this time. I pass it along for your reading. YEKCOH Yekcok pronounced "Yekko"' is a funny new game It's hockey spelled backwards, I will try to explain. It's a game just for parents of young hockey men You'll hear them at rinkside time and again, They scream and they shout, they rant and they roar, No wonder their poor boy's too nervous to score. It's a game for the memory and it's not really tough, Any parent can do it if you practice enough. The rules are quite simple, the results are much better, If you will try to remember each rule by it's letter. is for yelling, which you must not do with the exception of cheering, which we're coming to. -- are emotions that embarrass the boy not exactly make team-mates just jump for joy. is the kid who is trying to play. The program is his, to learn his own way. -- is for cheering and in this way you show you have confidence in your boy, and just watch him go. -- is for orders, which you never shout, Remember to to leave these for the coach to dish out. is for home, which is where you should stay if you hinder the kid when he comes out to play. So that is the game and there's one basic theme, Remember the motto when tempted to scream. Though we're not really trying to put you back on the shelf "Parents need not wear glasses to make spectacle of self.". Raiders drop to third By Garey Ris Russell Raiders have dropped to third place in the South Carleton Intermediate Hockey League after a high-scoring 10-7 loss to Rich- mond Dukes. Richmond had a 2-0 lead after the first period on goals by Robert Greer and Skip Patterson while Russell's Steve Morris was in the penalty box. The Raiders narrowed the gap to 4-3 with three second period goals by Randy Blondin with Gord Weatherall scoring in between. John Bonner of Russell had the only penalty. Ten goals were scored in the final frame with Russell getting four of them. Loyal Hughes, Weatherall Blondin, and Terry O'Neil scored but it was all catch-up hockey on Dec. 8 and Richmond proved to be the better team. SCIHL STANDINGS GP WwW L Ay Pts. The next R.A. Meeting is scheduled for Jan. 2at 8 p.m. Resurgent Jets The transfer to their new division seems to have worked wonders for the resurgent Metcalfe Jets. After a lack lustre season last year the Jets are playing with much more poise and confidence this season. They have added scoring punch and have also tightened up defensively making for a well-balanced attack. They recently qualified to represent their Division at the 'Boxing Day O.D.H.L. Tournament at Richmond edging out the Winchester Hawks. They have renewed their rivalry with the Hawks, Morrisburg, Prescott and Cradinal and the team is playing with a great deal of emotion, some- thing badly lacking last season. With veterans like Thom Racine, Frank Testa, Barry Hicks and Paul Pritchard leading the way, the Jets could prove to be very tough come play-off time.
