On Tuesday, Aug. 10 at 1:30 p.m. there were five short films, which were provided by Russell Public Library. We were very fortunate to have Claude Labreche, the famous Frence-Canadian folk singer and story teller to entertain us on Aug. 11 at St. Mary's Church Hall. This also was sponsored by our Library. The regular meeting of the Russell Village W.I. was held at the home of Mrs. Andre Cousineau. The vice-president Mrs. Richard Hamelin opened the meeting. '"'Through work, comes Friendship' was_ the motto. All members agreed to enter the Ottawa Exhibition and the Russell Fair. The guest speaker Michele LaFlamme was introduced by Unita Cousineau. Through the department of external affairs she taught English in Algeria for two years. Their language is Arabic and French. She taught children 10 to 14 years of age. Miss LaFlamme showed some of the clothes people are wearing. Women are never seen on the streets or never do their shopping, this is all done by men. She lived in some kind of motel. During her stay in Algeria she made a lot of friends. Before her departure she was presented with all kinds of jewelry. A low attendance put a damper on this very interest- ing meeting. Mrs. Steele reported a few things about the convention in Prince Edward Island. Mrs. Robert Campbell gave the motto "Through work, comes Friend- ship".
