MARCH 20, I974 TERRACE BAY NEWS PAGE 7 Sports Slants - continued And Rooney says the team will play out of Hous ~ton. Surely they can't do any worse than the NFL Oilers .... As of Sunday, March I0, Detroit Red Wings had won 20, tied nine and lost 2I since Alex Delvecchio took over the coaching reins last November. Not exactly an award-winning record. Let's face it, though, the Red Wings really haven't got much to work with. Take Mickey Redmond and Marcel Dionne out of their lineup and they'd be worse than Vancouver Canucks, or California Golden Seals. I thought Alex would perk up what he had after Ned Harkness left as general manager, but even that didn't work. The Wings have won four, tied three and lost eight since Harkness' departure. One thing I can promise you, though, if Ted Lindsay takes over as general manager of the Wings next year - and chances are pretty good he will -- watch for a new look in the Red Wings. I'd bet my gum rubber boots Lindsay will build a rough 'n tough club similar to what Fred Shero built in Philadelphia, then the Wings will be tough to contend with ....
