page 17 PUBLIC HEALTH NURSING DEPARTMENT International Year of the Child The United Nations has proclaimed 1979 as International Year of the Child to focus attention on children and their needs. ; Several of the nurses have formed - an AD HOC Committee on this Inter- national Year of the Child. One of their objectives is to inform the community of the current services provided by the health unit for the child and for the community. They will approach radio stations and local " neWSpapers during the weeks of May 14th and Hay 21st, requesting the following information be offered as a public service: 1. Even before your child is born, prenatal classes help prepare parents for a healthy pregnancy and a positive childbirth exâ€" perience. F) . Health Unit staff work closely with nursery schools, day care centres, teachers, family doctors and others in the cozmmrity to enhance and coâ€" ordinate childrér's services.
