Mr. Thomas Pearce was the first County Inspector appointed. He entered upon his duties the 1st of July 1871. and was sole inspector in the county until 1904, when a division of the county was made and he was appointed for No. 1 Division and Mr. F. W. Sheppard for No. 2 Divison. Mr. Pearce died in 1915 after forty-four years of distinguished service. He had been principal of Central School, Kitchener for eleven years.
