Notes
Son of John Dryden and Mary Lydia Holman, William Arthur Dryden was born at Maple Shade Farm in Whitby Township on 29 May 1881. He attended school at Brooklin, Woodstock Baptist College, and the Ontario Agricultural College at Guelph. Dryden took over the family farm in 1903.

William Dryden was Chairman of the Canadian National Livestock Records, President of the Dominion Shorthorn Breeders' Association, President of the Dominion Sheep Breeders' Association, executive member of the Canadian Co-Operative Wool Growers' Company, and Director of the Continental Life Insurance Company. He was the founder of the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair at Toronto in 1922, the world's largest indoor fair, and was its president from 1919 to 1923. He served as the general manager for the fair from 1936 to 1949. Dryden was also President of the Brooklin Spring Fair in 1921-22.

In 1929 he was a member of the Ontario Advisory Committee on Industrial Research and in 1943 he was livestock representative to the Ontario Agricultural Commission of Enquiry. He was also a senior director of the Canadian National Exhibition. Dryden was known throughout Canada as a leader in Shorthorn cattle breeding.

William Dryden died at Maple Shade Farm on 18 November 1949 and is buried in the Dryden Baptist Cemetery near his home.
