- Thomas Emmett (1829-1911) emigrated from Yorkshire, England in 1855. He settled at Watson farm on the town line between Whitby and Pickering Townships where he remained until he retired from farming in 1879. Upon arriving in Whitby Thomas immediately joined the Whitby Cricket Team. In 1907 he purchased the house at 306 Gilbert Street West.
Thomas married Hannah Strickland (1838-1916), also of Yorkshire, in 1861. They had three surviving children: Sarah Elizabeth (1862-1936), Mary Hannah (1865-1940), and George (1867-1943).
