Notes
The Spencer family hales from Dorset, England. John Horatio Spencer, second eldest son of John and Rebecca Spencer, married Sarah R. Mancy (1818-1889) at Hampshire in 1836 and they had nine children. Sometime between 1852 and 1855 the couple immigrated to Canada settling at Whitby.

Charles John Spencer (1848-1941), fourth eldest son of John Horatio and Sarah, married Minnie Ann Prebble of Kent in 1877 at Oshawa. The couple had six children: Harry Spencer (1878-1968), Edna Mae Spencer (1881-1977), Sydney Spencer (1883-1970), Nellie Spencer (1886-1983), Carl Spencer (1890-1984), Miriam Mary Spencer (1893-1984).
