- The Heron family came to Canada from Ayrshire, Scotland. William Heron (1792-1884) married Jane Crawford (1796-1877) at Ayrshire in 1818. The came to Canada with their family of two daughters, Elizabeth and Jean, and two sons, William and John, in the 1840s. They settled at Dalmore farm at Ashburn.
John Heron (1828-1890) married Mary Ewen (1920) by whom he had nine children: Mary, William, Jane, John, James, Robert, Helen, Andrew, and Lillie.
The Herons were well known farmers in Ashburn.
