- Four black and white negatives of Thomas and Sarah Hawes sitting in front of their home on the occasion of their 65th wedding anniversary.
- Notes
- Thomas Hawes (1850-1940) was born in Surrey, England. He immigrated to Canada with his brothers in 1869.
In 1872 he married Sarah Elizabeth Love (1858-1942) of Whitby at Brooklin. The couple had seven children: Thomas (1874-1954), Charles John (1877-1960), Mabel May (1880-1954), Alice Amelia (1883- ), Albert Henry (1885-1959), Wilfred Henry (1887-1909), Kathleen Rosezina (1890-1976). They lived on Garden Street.
Thomas Hawes helped to build the Whitby-Lindsay branch of the Canadian National Railway and for many years he worked on the northern line of the Canadian Pacific Railway.
