- Notes
- Thomas Hawes was born in England on March 2, 1850. He came to Canada as a boy. Thomas Hawes and Sarah Elizabeth Love married at Brooklin on November 30, 1872. Thomas Hawes was a farmer and later worked on constructing the Whitby, Port Perry and Lindsay Railway in the 1870s. He also worked on building the northern line of the Canadian Pacific Railway. His main hobby in old age was gardening at the family home on Garden Street in Whitby. He died on August 19, 1940 at Whitby and is buried at Oshawa Union cemetery.
