- Notes
- Anson Henderson was born at Brooklin, Ontario on November 17, 1852. He joined the 40th regiment of militia at the age of 14 in 1866 and attended the military school in Toronto at 1869. He was a member of the regimental band of the Queen's Own Rifles in 1871-1872. In addition to serving in the military, he was employed as a teacher for many years. He taught at the Ashburn School in 1875 and on December 23 of that same year he married Cecelia W. Vernon. About 1881 he became commercial master at the Whitby Collegiate Institute. He was part owner of the Whitby Chronicle from 1886 to 1887. He resigned from his position at the Whitby Collegiate Institute in December 1900. In 1901 he moved to Toronto with his daughter and Miss Dow and joined the staff of the Ontario Department of Agriculture. It appears that he travelled back and forth between Whitby and Toronto for some time since during the years 1906-1910, he was Commanding Officer of the 34th Regiment Battalion at Whitby. He died at Toronto on January 29, 1928 and is buried in Groveside Cemetery, Brooklin.
