- Notes
- Frederick Hatch was born in Darlington Township, north of Bowmanville, in 1861. About 1864 his father, Samuel Brown Hatch and his uncle Richard Hatch moved to Whitby and established a hardware business. This business was later taken over by Fred Hatch and his brother Frank. In 1904 Fred Hatch purchased the Martin Manufacturing Company (The Buckle Factory) and operated it as the Hatch Manufacturing Co. until 1929. Mr. Hatch was a great sportsman, playing cricket, lacrosse, baseball and track and field. He was a Master of Composite Lodge in 1900. In 1900 Mr. Hatch was one of the founders of Heydenshore Park at Port Whitby as a summer resort, and had a cottage there. He spent many years servicing and developing the park. Fred Hatch died at Whitby on June 27, 1929, and is buried at Union Cemetery, Oshawa.
