Description
A black and white portrait photograph of William Henry Huston, (1859-1892).
Notes
William Henry Huston was born at Whitby on June 17, 1859, the son of the town clerk and treasurer, Thomas Huston. He was educated at the Whitby Public School and High School and he matriculated into Toronto University in 1876. He was a teacher at the Whitby Collegiate Institute for four years. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Toronto, winning the Gilchrist Scholarship of London University, England. For one year he was House Master of Pickering College, and then was appointed principal. In 1886 he was appointed the first English Master at the Toronto Collegiate Institute and remained there until appointed Principal of Woodstock College, Woodstock, Ontario, in 1889. From 1885 to 1889 he was secretary of the Industrial School, Toronto. He died at Woodstock, Ontario on January 28. 1892 and is buried in the Baptist Cemetery at Woodstock.
