- A black and white portrait photograph of Francis James Roche, (1865-1927).
- Notes
- Francis James Roche was born at Whitby on October 10, 1865, son of John Richmond Roche, Professor of Mathematics in Newton University, Baltimore, Maryland. He was educated by private tuition at Toronto Collegiate Institute, Trinity College and University of Toronto, from which he graduated in 1886, taking honours in natural science. He gained his Master of Arts Degree in 1887. He was called to the Bar in 1889 and became a lawyer in Toronto. He was a captain in the 34th Ontario Battalion of Infantry. He was appointed Referee on the Ontario Supreme Court in 1914 and was a member of the Collegiate Institute Board of Trustees of Toronto from 1902 to 1905. He finished his career as registrar of the Appeal Court of the Supreme Court of Ontario, and died at Toledo, Ohio, U.S.A. on June 19, 1927. He is buried at Newmarket Cemetery, Newmarket, Ontario. He was an uncle of Mazo de la Roche, author of the "Whiteoaks of Jalna".
