- Notes
- Oliver (Ollie) Sebert was born near Oshawa on July 29, 1855. He worked at Whitby with his brother Louis Sebert in the livery business and later kept hotels at Brooklin and Port Perry. He was a member of the Maple Leafs lacrosse club of Oshawa which won the Canadian Championship in 1878. As a youth he gained fame as a long distance runner. Oliver Sebert was the father of Louis Joseph Sebert, who represented Canada in track and field at the 1908 Summer Olympics at London, England. Oliver Sebert had a life-long interest in promoting amateur sport. He died at Whitby on August 15, 1931 and is buried at Union Cemetery, Oshawa.
