- A black and white photograph of a watercolour painting of John Dow (1816-1858).
- Notes
- John Dow was born at the parish of Marnoch, Banffshire, Scotland on August 9, 1816. In 1832 he came to Canada with his father, William Dow and spent a winter in Lower Canada (Quebec) before settling in 1833 on lot 23, concession 3, Whitby Township. One of the founders of the County of Ontario Agricultural Society in 1853, he was its vice-president at the time of his death. After his father's death in 1855 he inherited the family farm on lot 23, concession 3, known as Glen Dhu. He died at Glen Dhu in Whitby Township on October 7, 1858 and is buried at Union Cemetery, Oshawa.
