- A black and white portrait photograph of John Alexander McGillivray.
- Notes
- John Alexander McGillivray was born in Pickering Township on July 19, 1852. He studied law under George Young Smith at Whitby, Lyman English at Oshawa, and Jones Brothers and Mackenzie of Toronto. He commenced a law practice with John Billings at Port Perry and later moved to Uxbridge. He had an office for many years in Toronto as Supreme Secretary of the Independent Order of Foresters. He was a member of the first council of the Town of Uxbridge in 1872 and Mayor in 1890. In 1895-96 he was an MP for North Ontario. He served as Commanding Officer of the 34th regiment from 1902 to 1906. He died February 13, 1911 at Guelph, Ontario, and is buried at Uxbridge Cemetery, Uxbridge, Ontario.
