- Anson G. Henderson was born at Brooklin on November 17, 1852 and was a teacher and military man for many years. He taught at the Ashburn School in 1875 when he married Cecelia W. Vernon on December 23 of that year. About 1881 he became commercial master at the Whitby Collegiate Institute and resigned in December 1900. In 1901 he moved to Toronto and joined the staff of the Ontario Department of Agriculture. He was part owner of the Whitby Chronicle from 1886 to 1897. He joined the 40th regiment of militia at the age of 14 in 1866 and attended the military school in Toronto in 1869. He was a member of the regimental band of the Queen's Own Rigles in 1871-72. He was commanding officer of the 34th Regiment Battalion at whitby from 1906 to 1910. He died at toronto on January 29, 1928 and is buried in Groveside Cemetery, Brooklin.
