- William John Haycraft was born in Darlington Township near Bowmanville on 1859 he was married at Columbus on December 22, 1880 to Phoebe Ann Harper and lived in Scarborough for a few years before moving to Brooklin where he operated a butcher shop from 1897 to 1912. He was a member of Beethoven Oddfellows Lodge in Brooklin and the Canadian Order of Chosen Friends. Mr. Haycraft was a member of the Whitby Township Council from 1903 to 1906 and was Reeve from 1908 to 1911. In 1911 he was Warden of Ontario County and in 1912 he moved to Edmonton, Alberta. He died on December 31, 1914 and is buried at Groveside Cemetery, Brooklin.
