I have in my collection an exceedingly rare, most likely one of a kind 1/2 gallon salt glazed crock with blue debossed letters R & J Campbell / Dealers in Groceries / Glass Ware & China / Whitby They are listed as general merchants on Brock St. 1869-1870 in the Connor and Coulston Ontario business directory. My experience with early Ontario crockery tells me this example likely dates to c.1870. It was dug out of an old dump in Green River, Ontario in the 1980`s. This dump yeilded various utalitarion items dating from the 1870`s.
