Thank you Arthur for adding so much information to the record with your comment. Your comment made me realize that timing is so important – I had just added in the photo of your great-great-grandfather online in the past month. I will forward this message on to Brian Winter, our Archivist as he may have more information for you about your great grandfather here at the Whitby Archives. Thank you again so much for adding a comment which enriches the record.

George Young Smith would have been my great-great-great grandfather, I think. We have a postcard of the Whitby Mansion. I have always wondered about this facet of the family. My grandfather was James Rochester Smith, born in Ottawa Ontario and I believe his father would have been John James Smith who was referenced by A.Y. Smith (A.Y. is my first cousin, once removed) in the above comments. I wrote to the Museum in Whitby long ago to see if they had further information, but had no response. Just today, I googled George Young Smith, after receiving a press release through the BC Museums Association listserve stating that the Whitby Museum may close its doors. I work at the Britannia Mine Museum in Britannia Beach British Columbia. I am pleased to find these postings. Please let me know if I might be able to find out further information and photos about George Young Smith, and his family. Kind Regards, Jane Iverson, Britannia Beach, BC
