Notes
The blanket factory was one of three main industries in Whitby during the early 20th century. Whitby’s main industries at this time were a buckle factory; blanket factory and tannery. The blanket factory, as it was locally known, was in operation from 1910 to 1958.

Located at 211 Brock Street North, the buckle factory occupied the block bounded by Brock Street, Gilbert Street, Byron Street and Dunlop Street. The blanket factory manufactured blankets and collars for horses.

At the end of 1909, Samuel Trees Junior purchased the agricultural foundry. The agricultural foundry operated from 1854 to 1909. It began as Brown Post and Company in 1854. Later it operated as Brown and Patterson. Next it became Patterson Brothers, then Mowat Manufacturing Company and finally the Farmers Co-operative Manufacturing Company.

In 1910, Samuel Trees opened the blanket factory in the agricultural foundry. The blanket factory operated as Samuel Trees and Company until 1958 and in 1962 the factory was demolished.
