- A black and white portrait photograph of Mervin William John Oke.
- Notes
- Mervin William John Oke was born in Oshawa in 1913, son of Mr. and Mrs. Russell Oke of Peterborough. He was employed at Alger Press in Oshawa as a photographer. He moved to Whitby from Oshawa on his marriage in 1941.
He enlisted with the Engineers in May 1943 and was later transferred to the Princess Louise Dragoon Guards, Infantry of Ottawa. He went overseas in December 1943 and was in action in Italy. He was reported missing on the Italian Front in December 1944 and was later confirmed killed.
According to the Canadian Virtual War Memorial site he is commemorated on page 407 of the Second World War Book of Remembrance. He is interred at CASSINO MEMORIAL, Italy. - Date of Original
