“Stonehaven,” the lovely home of Mr. and Mrs. Norman Irwin, was the scene on Saturday afternoon (June 20) of one of the season’s earliest and most delightful garden parties, when about four hundred accepted the invitation to enjoy the hospitality of Stonehaven’s popular host and hostess. Guests came from Whitby, Oshawa, Toronto, Kitchener, Bowmanville, Pickering, and other places, and were received by Mr. and Mrs. Irwin at the entrance to the lovely gardens. The charming hostess received in a pretty picture frock of white with matching accessories and carried a sheaf of lovely roses.
Nature combined to make her party delightful and successful and to make the setting one long to be remembered. “Stonehaven has long been noted for its lovely and spacious lawns, endless variety of flowers and shrubs, tastefully and attractively arranged, its swimming pool, the wide sweeping verandahs of the home, and last but not least, its substantial buildings and all of these impressed the visitors.
Not a few of the guests took advantage of the opportunity to visit the stables and see the horses which are some of the finest in the country. Of particular interest were the Suffock Punch horses brought from England by Mr. Irwin. The Swiss cattle in nearly fields were also of much interest.
“Stonehaven” is a real show place and there is much to be seen. This year many improvements were noted.
During the afternoon a very tasty and acceptable buffett luncheon was served on the lawn.
