But many teens and their parents are surprised to learn students can also have a major in high school. The Durham District School Board is working to raise awareness of Specialist High Skills Major (SHSM) programs among Grade 7 and 8 students and their families. "The goal is to excite and inspire students to get involved in their high school and explore the different pathway opportunities and job skills programs that are available," a new DDSB report says.
