| durhamregion.com | This Week | Thursday, August 25, 2022 | 24 DIEMER, Egon Albert March 11, 1935 - July 31, 2022 ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Egon Diemer at the age of 87. He was born to Joseph and Anna Diemer in Mannheim, Germany. He was predeceased by his loving wife Margaret in 2013. He is survived by his daughter Cristal Diemer-Ewles (Mike Ewles) and Michael Diemer (Shelley O'Brien) and his two adored grandchildren, Grace Ewles (Tom Gatien) and Derek Diemer. He will be missed by his special friend Lily Thomas. He was loved by his friends, extended family and nieces and nephews. He is survived by his sister Bridgette and her husband Rudy Smolka. He was predeceased by his other siblings Marianna Heiss and Helmut Diemer. Seeking adventure, in 1954, he voyaged across the Atlantic and arrived in Quebec. He did farm work and odd jobs, and eventually made his way to Oshawa, Ontario where on October 29, 1957 he was hired at General Motors. Dad said that obtaining a job at GM was "the best thing I ever did". He said GM provided him with a good living that made it possible for both his children to graduate from Queen's. He retired from GM in 1992. In retirement he continued an active life including golfing, travelling and socializing with friends/family. If you knew Egon, you know he always loved having a good time and laughter. His passing leaves a gap in our lives but our memories of a man who truly enjoyed life will live on forever. CHAPPELL, Jean Willma May 11, 1931 - August 26, 2022 ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Our wonderful mother, grandmother and great- grandmother passed away at Bowmanville Hospital on August 26, 2022, at the age of 91. Mom was predeceased by her son Patrick (2015), and husband Patrick senior (2020), to whom she was married for 73 years. Jean was a loving mother to her sons Dan and Rick, and daughters- in-law Dianne, Deb and Debbie. She will also be missed by her grandchildren Stacey, Dara, Danielle and Zeck, and her great- grandchildren Finnley, Huxley, Scarlett, Tyla, Damien, Liara and Ruairi. We are grateful to Traditions Retirement Home in Oshawa and the Bowmanville Hospital, their love and kindness to our mom will forever be with us. Our mother has gone to be with the Lord of Heaven. (nee Wallace) Sept 27, 1929 - July 12, 2022 Passed away peacefully in Oshawa at the age of 92. Predeceased by her devoted husband Jack. Kind and loving mother of Julie & Wallace. Growing up in Scugog Township, Doris's musical talents manifested themselves at an early age and she obtained her Associate Diploma (Solo Performer) from the Royal Conservatory of Music at 19. Over the next seven decades, she shared her gift of music with thousands in Durham Region & beyond as a piano teacher, music director at St. Mark's United (Whitby) & accompanist for various community choral groups including the GM Choir. A gifted singer, Doris was an alumna of the Leslie Bell Singers with whom she performed in countless broadcasts, recordings & concerts across Canada. She later became a member & assistant director of The County Town Singers. Her love of music was equalled only by her love for her family. And she continued to share her warm, smile & caring spirit with family, friends & caregivers until her final days. Dearly beloved mother to Alan (Pasqualina) and James (Tracie). Loving Grandmother to four wonderful grandchildren: Amanda, Katarina, Jared and Morgan. Janet was an accomplished piano player and artist. She will be fondly remembered for her love of classical music, cats, Elvis and brightly coloured lipsticks.
